Chieftain 1400 excels in New Zealand

Lincom’s South Island Sales and Service Manager, Stewart Austin, commented, “This latest machine is the 26th Chieftain 1400 that Lincom NZ has supplied in the South Island. There has been a notable increase in the need for efficient, mobile screening plants following the 2011 earthquake which devastated much of Christchurch. We are seeing more and more contractors who have been existing users of Powerscreen machines purchasing additional Chieftain screening plants. The machine has a proven track record in terms of performance and longevity, making it an interesting value proposition and offering an excellent return on original investment.” Austin continued, “The Chieftain 1400 offers an outstanding balance of screening performance, portability and value to those involved in the rebuilding of the city. Additionally, it is an excellent fit for New Zealand’s quarrying and aggregate conditions.”

At the core of the Chieftain 1400 mobile screen is the time-proven, high energy Powerscreen 11’ x 5’ four-bearing, two-deck screen box. In addition, a variety of subtle updates and additions further enhance the productivity, serviceability and reliability of the Chieftain 1400 screen. Highlights include improved access, increased serviceability and an extended feed hopper to accommodate the trend towards larger wheel loaders.

Christchurch Readymix Concrete Ltd is an example of a local company which has undergone significant recent growth leading to the purchase of another Chieftain 1400 screen. Part of the company’s growth has been from the provision of contracting services for the rebuilding of Christchurch. Additionally, the company has a proud 50 year history of providing concrete, shingle and sand in the Canterbury region. A requirement for extra screening capacity has seen their Canterbury Aggregates division take delivery of its second Chieftain 1400 unit.

As Gavin Parker, Aggregate Supervisor of Canterbury Aggregates, explained, “Our first Chieftain 1400 has performed exceptionally well in its application. With 5300 trouble-free hours on it with only routine maintenance required, it gave us significant confidence in the Powerscreen brand when the time came to purchase another machine. It is great to see the upgrades on the 2014 model, which has already been put to work screening river gravel at our site near Kaiapoi. We fully expect the same efficient and reliable performance from this machine as we have come to expect of Powerscreen equipment.”
